Lecture – What Is Amida Buddha?

What Is Amida Buddha?

In this lecture Dr. Haneda explains the meaning of the concept of “Amida Buddha,” one of the most important concepts in Shin Buddhism. The concept is a symbol of the Dharma (i.e., the truth of impermanence or of dependent origination). To say that Amida liberates us means that the Dharma, not human beings, such as Shakyamuni and our teachers, liberates us. He also discusses the historical background in which the concept came into being in ancient India.
